On 8th April, the first Downhill City Tour edition in season 2018 took place. It is the only competition in Poland held in the urban downhill discipline, which have been organized cyclically since 2015 and are gaining a growing international reach. The edition in Cieszyn was organised in the Dual Edition formula, where two competitors are racing simultaneously on a specially prepared route. Form like this is extremely spectacular.
The day before competition riders can chill on “before party” on the local spot:
On the day of competition everyone was treated with sunny weather. However, we were struggling with the curse of the wind, which is loved by riders, but only when it blows in the back. In the Fan Zone there was a competition office, pumptrack with an instructor, catering zone, partners stands, stage and bicycle SPA.
The route of the race was demanding in terms of physical condition and full of technical elements such as stairs, tight corners, paving stones (with low grip), jumps, mounds and other obstacles in the urban infrastructure.
Nearly 130 competitors took part in the race, and due to cooperation between Downhill City Tour and the Czech Downtown series, a large number of them came from the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
After the main part of the competition, the whip contest took place, in which cyclists had to tilt their bike in flight as much as possible. Such “flights” are judged by the jury, and then the best player is selected.
